His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani participated in the activities of the Qatar National Sport Day Tuesday morning along with citizens and residents of the country.
People of different ages turned out in large numbers at the various designated venues from the early hours Tuesday to engage in a wide range of sports and fitness activities.
Besides individuals, TuQatari ministries, sports federations, various institutions and private entities organised or participated in the events and activities lined up to mark the special occasion.
His Highness the Amir took part in walking and jogging exercises on the Lusail Promenade with a number of world champions, Olympic athletes, a number of Qatari Women’s Sports Committee players and Aspire Academy students, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani also participated in Qatar Sport Day activities Tuesday morning.
The Father Amir carried out a walking exercise at Al Shaqab and also watched a purebred Arabian horse show.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al-Thani, a number of Sheikhs and ministers and horse riding enthusiasts also participated along with His Highness the Father Amir, QNA said.
Meanwhile, Qatar Foundation (QF) Chairperson Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Tuesday attended QF’s National Sport Day celebrations.
The activities were also attended by HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of QF. In addition, some of Qatar’s top sporting figures as well as members of the community participated in the QF activities.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani took part in the activities of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), organised by Qatar Police Sports Federation on the occasion of the country’s Sport Day, Tuesday morning.
He played football at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, Qatar Sports Club, with a number of senior officials and employees of the MoI.
He also participated in other sporting activities held on this occasion, with a number of persons with special needs.
HE the Prime Minister also opened the Olympic Cycling Lane on Al Khor Coastal Road Tuesday morning.
A host of other Their Excellencies Ministers, officials of various organisations and federations, other dignitaries and Qatari sportspersons also took part in activities organised on the occasion.
The events held by different organisations and companies not only raised awareness of the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle but also enabled their staff and family members to interact in a casual and cordial environment. Besides, they also allowed the public to take part in a wide array of sporting activities.
Parks and popular destinations such as Museum of Islamic Art Park, Katara – the Cultural Village, Aspire Zone, Al Bidda Park, Doha Corniche, among several others, saw a huge turnout of people from early Tuesday.
People braved chilly winds to take part in various types of sporting activities at these and several other venues around Doha and beyond, and children in particular could be seen having a great time trying their hand at different games and exercises.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy marked the occasion by opening three public parks at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium and the former Al Ersal Station training sites cluster, which is located in Onaiza, near West Bay.
