New rules for gyms in Qatar to control COVID-19

New rules have been introduced in gyms across Qatar in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Gym classes are no longer allowed, and personal trainers can only train one person at a time, and should try to
maintain a three metre distance between them.

Masks must be worn at all times, even while exercising, and the capacity of the gym should be limited to 30 percent.

Toilets and changing rooms must be closed, and gym goers are expected to bring their own towels and water bottles. All equipment must be cleaned and sanitised every two hours.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement,

“This decision is effective from Tuesday, September 8, 2020, and may be subject to amendments and updates according to the latest developments in this regard.

Any violation of this decision will subject perpetrators to legal accountability and procedures.

“The Ministry stresses that the success of each stage of the comprehensive plan for the gradual lifting of restrictions depends on the adherence of all citizens and residents to the required preventive and precautionary measures.”

No date has been set for when the new restrictions will be reviewed.
