Qatar National Library launches virtual visits for schools

In a new initiative for students, the Qatar National Library (QNL) has announced the launch of ‘virtual school visits to the Library.’

Through the new service, students can learn about various activities and online resources, said the Library on its website.

School visit requests can only be done through the online booking system available in the Library website. The virtual school visits will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.

‘Each school may register one slot for either primary or secondary level per month.

This condition is in place to give other schools across Qatar the chance to book a visit. A maximum of 30 students can be accommodated in each slot, announced the Library.

The school will automatically get a confirmation email once the online booking has been successfully processed. The school will also receive a link to the virtual school visit by the assigned librarian before the booked date and time.

During the virtual tour, students will also be able to enjoy storytelling time and other activities. According to the Library, Mondays and Wednesdays are allocated for primary levels; Sundays and Tuesdays are for secondary levels. The Library staff will notify the school or its representative of any cancelled booking. The new service has commenced as the Children’s Library and the Young Adults’ Area remain closed until further notice.

As part of COVID-19 precautions, the QNL continues to receive visitors by appointment in three times slots. ‘Only 200 people will be allowed in the building during each time slot  8 am to 10 am, 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, and 3:30 to 7:30 pm, said the Library.  ‘To borrow books, you need to request them in advance at least 2 working days before the time slot you’ve booked for your Library visit, it added.

The Heritage Library has opened and Heritage Reading Room is also available for selected heritage and reference materials. Heritage Library materials are accessible primarily by requesting a  digital copy via email .

Also public group tours are now available, including the Heritage Library Exhibition Area by appointment and interested visitors should register for a tour via the Library website.

To ensure safety, visitors will be allowed into the building only if they fulfil the following conditions: a confirmation of their slot booking through the form, age is between 13 and 60, having a green status on the Ehteraz app, temperature of no more than 37.8 degrees Celsius and have a face mask or shield.
